Quinn Records TM like other record companies, sell pre-recorded music under an assumed name.
The label in itself is a brand: a name, symbol, logo, a trade mark, a sign, an image or words . The Major record companies use's many different labels at any one time. The labels are used as,"identifiers"to help record buyers tell where a record come from and/or what kind of musical content it offers, with just a glance and without even hearing it. Record companies go to great length in protecting their labels.
Lets face the facts, there is no point in owning a label and promoting it, if it can't be differentciated from other Labels, or if someone else uses it without consent. So if and when a Label is created without a clear understanding of its' purpose i.e. the lack of understanding branding, than failure is the path this Label is on.
Labels that are well managed , can get a reputation for quality, musical style, genre that are both popular and/or niched, this invaluable recognition in itself sets a path that enhances, builds and clearly identifies the directional approach for its marketing.
Quinn Records TM label is a perfect example of a label that managed to define its musical style so powerfully that the record-buying public can more or less tell what they will get as soon as they see a Quinn Records TM label on the record. The label identification is so strong that when the company decided to release pop or classical recordings, it has to create another label to place these new recordings on.
.
Labels in other genres of music have been successful in defining themselves by their labels too.No one would expect Alligator Records to release rap and hip hop any more than Malaco would release chamber music.
Any potential buyer looking at a record on the Quinn Records TM label would know the recording’s musical genre.
A successful label helps to sell records. It invest a large percentage of it's dollars in promoting the artist(s) on it's Label. Labels with an active touring artist selling out venues will see record sale numbers increase as the artist grows in popularity within the Marketplace..
This is largely the reason why when record buyers go to purchase a recording they idenify the record with it's title, artist name or both. Rarely do they (the record buyers) buy a record using a Label name.
The Label is one of the most valuable assets an Independent can acquire, next to the master recordings.
SO,JUST WHAT ARE LABELS? Well, they're just a,"Brand".
